Rivercrest school employee killed in accident

WILSON, Ark. – An accident has claimed the life of a long-time school employee at Rivercrest Schools, the Blytheville Courier reports.

Charles A. Hamm, 75, was killed Wednesday morning, April 12, in a tragic accident at the “bus barn” of Rivercrest Schools, the Courier reported. Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched at around 10:47 a.m. to 48 Cortez Kennedy Avenue in reference to someone falling off a building.

Evidently, while two employees, including Hamm, were on the roof repairing a damaged skylight, Hamm somehow fell through the skylight and down to the concrete floor. He did not move or make a sound after the fall, the witness said.

With no one to hold the ladder, the witness was forced to stay on the rooftop and could not render aide. He did call 911. The coroner pronounced Hamm dead on the scene.

The Courier reported neither employee was wearing a harness, but it was unknown if district standard safety procedures were followed.
