Smithville woman killed in Wednesday wreck

JESUP, Ark. – A woman has died after crashing into a tree, the Arkansas State Police crash report says.

The tragic incident happened shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday evening on Highway 115 in Jesup, the report said. A 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by Stephanie N. Hufford, 35, of Smithville, was traveling eastbound on the highway. Cpl. Anthony Dail with state police reported the vehicle was navigating a curve when it left the roadway, striking a tree. The crash claimed Hufford’s life.

A report by Imboden Live said the vehicle caught fire. Witnesses attempted to free the trapped victim but could not before the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.

Conditions were reported as cloudy with dry roads at the time of the accident.
