JONESBORO, Ark. – The report indicates a girl may have had too much to drink before getting behind the wheel after leaving the club this weekend.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday, an off-duty officer working security at the Vault requested assistance in locating a vehicle which had just struck another vehicle in the parking lot. The off-duty officer said a red sports car had just turned onto Race Street from Fair Park heading westbound.
Already in the area, Officer Brandon Butler responded and located a 2016 red Dodge Challenger at the intersection of Race Street and Caraway Road, facing westbound. He confirmed the vehicle matched the description given by the other officer and began a traffic stop, making contact with the driver, Shelby Turner, 21, of Jonesboro.
Butler spoke to Turner and told her why he stopped her. He said she initially claimed she did not strike a vehicle in the Vault parking lot but the officer noticed a small amount of black paint transfer on her rear bumper. She eventually fessed up to hitting a black passenger car and leaving the scene.
However, the officer noticed another issue in the form of an open beer can in the console of her car.
The officer asked how much she had drank, with the answer, “not very much” being the girl’s reply. After a field sobriety test, the girl appeared to have difficulty conducting herself. She then blew a .13 on the portable breathalyzer test. Turner was arrested and taken to Craighead County Detention Center. There, according to the report, she refused to take the BAC test, netting her a DWI refusal charge along with charges of DWI 1, and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage only.
