JONESBORO, Ark. – A suspected shoplifter who was caught in the act roughed up a pregnant woman standing in his way, according to the report.
It happened around 9:30 p.m. Monday night at the Dollar General on 101 E. Johnson Avenue in Jonesboro. The victim, a 29-year-old cashier, noticed a man stuffing shirts under his own shirt with the intention of stealing. She confronted the man and he denied having anything, and began yelling, the report said. She also said he smelled like he had been drinking heavily.
The woman called 911 and the suspect began taking shirts out from under his, throwing them onto the ground. As the woman was standing in the door, the man pushed her against the door and then elbowed her in the stomach while trying to exit the front door. He made it past her and began running northbound toward Bill’s Fresh Market, across Johnson Avenue.
The suspect was described as a black male but no other details were in the report, other than him smelling like alcohol.
No medical treatment or need was noted in the report for the victim. However, the suspect faces shoplifting and assault charges from the incident.
