JONESBORO, Ark. – The latest tax collection numbers in Craighead County are at an all-time high.
For the taxes from 2015, payable in 2016 tax year, the number is a record breaking amount collected by Tax Collector Marsha Phillip’s office.
$62,601,147.52 was collected, Phillips said in a press release. The delinquent personal collections were $1,447,730.68. Delinquent real estate taxes collected was $1,611,060.72.
“Since I have been there, that’s the most money collected for a calendar year from March 1 to Oct. 17,” Phillips said. “That’s a record year.”
However, Phillips did say many were opting to pay their taxes late and that number was on the rise.
“Some people wait,” Phillips said. “They’ll pay when they get their car tags or they’ll pay when they get their refund next year.”
Still yet, Phillips said the total of $65.8 million collected was above the $62.8 million collected last year and she seemed pleased with the number.
“I know the county is growing by leaps and bounds and I’m not surprised at the number,” Phillips said.
