JONESBORO, Ark. ⎯ The United States is currently in a skin cancer epidemic – 5 million skin cancers are diagnosed each year and one out of five people will have skin cancer in their lifetime. NEA Baptist is working to combat this epidemic by providing free skin cancer screenings on Friday, Nov. 4 from 8 to 12 p.m. at 909 Enterprise Drive in Jonesboro.
The screenings will be free to the first 200 participants.
Seeing that skin cancer is the most common type of cancer Johnathan J. Ledet, MD, FAAD, recommends seeing a Board Certified Dermatologist at least once a year to optimize overall health. The earlier that skin cancer is detected, the easier it will be to treat.
The American Cancer Society has found that more skin cancer is diagnosed in the U.S. each year than all other cancers combined. In 2016, 76,380 cases of the most deadly type of skin cancer, Melanoma, have been found in the United States, and 5.4 million basal and squamous cell skin cancers are diagnosed each year.
Dr. Johnathan Ledet is a Board Certified Dermatologist at NEA Baptist Clinic. He graduated from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine and completed his residency at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Ledet recently completed a fellowship in Micrographic Surgery (Mohs) and Dermatologic Oncology by the American College of Mohs Surgeons. He is now fellowship trained in skin cancer treatment and reconstruction, and is the only fellowship trained surgical dermatologist in the area. Working alongside Dr. Ledet is Meredith Brewer, PA-C. She also graduated from Louisiana State University School of Medicine. To schedule an appointment, call 936-7546.
