ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Two Arkansas State Police investigators joined an international effort to identify children depicted in sexual abuse material, helping generate 182 referrals to law enforcement, according to a news release issued Thursday.
Sgt. Corwin Battle, commander of the Arkansas Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and Criminal Investigation Division Special Agent Roy Moomey participated in the weeklong operation hosted by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
The operation brought together 40 victim identification specialists from local, state, federal and international law enforcement agencies. Participants reviewed more than 400 series of child sexual abuse material to find information that could help identify the children depicted.
The reviews resulted in 83 domestic referrals and 99 international referrals, state police said.
“Bringing investigators and forensic examiners together allows us to share expertise, connect information across jurisdictions, and develop leads that may help identify a child,” Battle said. “The Arkansas State Police is committed to working alongside our partners to move these investigations forward and help bring victims closer to safety.”
In addition to investigators from across the United States, participants represented INTERPOL, the Australian Federal Police, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency.
Specialists also reviewed more than 570 additional series that may contain new content connected to previously submitted CyberTipline reports. Those reviews helped determine whether the children had already been identified or whether further identification efforts were needed.
