JONESBORO, Ark. – Jonesboro Police Department arrested a juvenile suspect Thursday in connection with an overnight shooting but they’re still looking for one more suspect.

Jonesboro E-911 dispatch began receiving calls at 1:57 a.m. regarding possible gunshots in the Race Street area. A few minutes later, a patrol officer observed a vehicle traveling near Johnson Avenue and Airport Road at a high rate of speed with a flat tire, according to a news release. The vehicle pulled over and occupants of the vehicle flagged the officer down. They informed him that there were two men in the vehicle who had been shot.

The victims were transported to the hospital where they were identified as Josh Cherrith, 20, of Blytheville, and Dequantez Lawless, 21, of Trumann. Cherrith was treated at the hospital for a minor injury and was later arrested for unrelated offenses. Lawless is still being treated at the hospital. He is expected to recover from his injuries.

Officers located the crime scene at 3103 Race Street and detectives responded to that area to investigate. They worked the scene overnight, reports indicate.

One of the men arrested was a juvenile, according to JPD Sgt. Cassie Brandon. His name was not released. A second suspect was still being sought, she said.
