Batesville man killed in wreck following wreck

BATESVILLE, Ark. – An Independence County man died while standing near a traffic accident Thursday.

According to the Arkansas State Police Incident Report, a 2008 Chevrolet truck was involved in a wreck in the eastbound lane of Highway 106 at Wilson Circle with a 2016 Jeep Cherokee just after 7 a.m. Thursday morning. However, both the truck and sports utility vehicle remained in the eastbound lane following the accident.

While both were “stationary” in the highway, according to the report, a 1999 Chevrolet truck traveling eastbound struck both the Jeep and the other Chevy truck. The second truck struck the Batesville man, mortally wounding him.

Jimmy D. Sanders, 52, of Batesville, was killed by the tragic accident.

The driver of the Jeep was Debera R. Sanders, 50, of Batesville, the report said. The 2008 Chevrolet truck involved in the first accident was driven by Brian Lindsey, 37, of Batesville. Both drivers, along with a minor, were injured in the accidents and taken to White River Medical Center.

Cpl. Michael Woodward investigated the crash and reported conditions were dry and clear at the time of the accident.
