Man arrested for suspected drunken hit and run incident

JONESBORO, Ark. – A man told officers he went to Buffalo Wild Wings but when the officer asked what he had to eat, the man replied “he ate beer.”

The story began just before midnight Thursday at midnight, when officers were dispatched to the 2600-block of Red Wolf Boulevard in reference to a man involved in several hit and runs. A victim described sitting at a red light on Race Street and Red Wolf Boulevard, when the suspect vehicle struck him while turning off of Red Wolf and onto Race. While speaking with the man, the vehicle was located nearby.

A witness also told officers the suspect vehicle, parked at a nearby Kum and Go, had both the driver and passenger switch seats when it arrived. With that detail in mind, police spoke with the prior driver/present passenger, James Jordan Eakes, 24, of Jonesboro. The report states Eakes said he had just gone to Buffalo Wild Wings but when the officer asked what he had to eat, “he stated that he ate beer.”

When police gave Eakes an inebriation test, he was noted as “swaying.” According to the report, Eakes explained this by saying “he had a hole in his right eye.”

Eakes was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident and DWI, both misdemeanors, and taken to Craighead County Detention Center. A surety bond of $1,275.00 was set.
