Hoxie Police Extend Helping Hand to Lawrence County Department of Human Services

HOXIE, Ark. – On Monday, officers from the Hoxie Police Department demonstrated their commitment to community welfare by making a donation to the Lawrence County Department of Human Services (DCFS). The donation comprised essential food items aimed at assisting parents facing challenges and in immediate need of support.

“While we may find ourselves having to collaborate with DCFS more frequently than anticipated, it’s heartening to see them offering crucial resources to those striving to overcome difficulties, especially within our own Hoxie community,” stated an officer.

The contribution aligns with DCFS’s mission to provide additional support to families navigating unexpected challenges. Lezlee Starr, a Family Services Worker at DCFS, emphasized the importance of community involvement in extending assistance to families during trying times.

“Sometimes, families encounter unexpected circumstances and require additional support, even when they’re doing their utmost to provide for their loved ones,” Starr explained. “It truly takes a village, and for some families, that support network is lacking. That’s where the community steps in to become that village for others.”

Lawrence County DCFS actively seeks community support to address the diverse needs of families, accepting donations of various items such as food, baby supplies, safety locks, and more. These donations play a pivotal role in providing immediate assistance to families in crisis, whether it’s a child entering foster care or a family awaiting the commencement of services.

“We house some of these items in our office for those unexpected times,” Starr added. “Our team is dedicated to ensuring that families in need receive the necessary support and resources to navigate challenging circumstances.”

The officers’ donation underscores the collaborative efforts between law enforcement and community welfare organizations, reflecting a shared commitment to the well-being of all residents. For more information on how to contribute or access services, individuals can reach out to the local DHS office in Walnut Ridge at 870-886-2408, or contact any of the dedicated workers at the Lawrence County DCFS.
