PARAGOULD, Ark. – A man faces a felony charge after Paragould police report he struck someone with a cane at a club, causing injury.

The probable cause affidavit from the Paragould Police Department says on April 13, officers were dispatched to the Landmark Night Club, 123 E. Park Street, in reference to a male being hit with a cane. Officers arrived and made contact with the alleged victim who had been struck in the head with an aluminum walking cane during an argument.

The victim sustained an approximate 3-inch laceration to the scalp and was treated at a local hospital.

The affidavit says the defendant, Kevin McIllwain, had left the scene prior to the officer’s arrival but later called the police department and allegedly made incriminating statements about the incident.

On Thursday, May 2, Judge Dan Stidham found probable cause exists to arrest McIllwain for second degree battery. Bond was set at $5,000 cash only. The defendant was ordered to have no contact with the victim and to not possess any weapons.
