JONESBORO, Ark. — South Main Street in downtown Jonesboro reopened to vehicular traffic Tuesday afternoon after initial shoring and stabilization work was completed at 219 S. Main St.
The city advised motorists to use caution and pay close attention to cones and temporary traffic patterns while contractors complete the remaining work.
The section between Huntington Avenue and Cate Avenue had been closed since Friday afternoon, when part of a front column separated from the two-story building and fell onto the sidewalk.
No injuries were reported. The building was evacuated while engineers assessed its condition, but pedestrians were permitted outside the safety-tape buffer.
City officials previously said the remaining cosmetic work would not require the street to stay closed.
The city thanked the building owner, engineer and contractor for taking immediate action and working quickly to address the issue and safely reopen the street.
