JONESBORO, Ark. — Beverly Vance Aikins, the mother of Vice President JD Vance, will share her experience with addiction and recovery during a special service Friday at Sanctuary Church in Jonesboro.
The Seven Recovery service will begin at 6:30 p.m. July 31 at the church, 3119 Rook Road. Organizers said Aikins will discuss addiction, forgiveness, rebuilding relationships and finding hope through recovery.
Aikins struggled for years with an addiction to prescription pain medication that later led to the use of other substances, according to a release from the church. She eventually entered recovery with support from her faith and community and has since spoken to recovery groups, churches, treatment centers and other organizations across the country.
“What an amazing thing it is to see a testimony of recovery,” Sanctuary Church Pastor Kenneth O’Connell said. “At Seven Recovery at Sanctuary, we believe in restoration. Beverly’s journey is a reminder to all of us that real change is possible when we look to Jesus.”
Aikins’ experience with addiction and its effects on her family was recounted by her son in his memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy.” She marked 10 years of sobriety in 2025.
Tim Collums, director of Seven Recovery, said the ministry is honored to welcome Aikins and hopes her story will encourage others.
“Every person has a story, and every story matters,” Collums said. “We believe God can bring hope, healing and purpose to any life, no matter the past.”
Seven Recovery is Sanctuary Church’s recovery ministry for people experiencing what the organization describes as “hurts, habits and hang-ups.” Its regular meetings are held Tuesday evenings, beginning with a meal at 5:45 p.m. and a large-group meeting at 6:30 p.m.
