Suspect Arrested After Allegedly Striking Victim With Motorcycle Helmet, Taking Purse and Keys

JONESBORO, Ark. — A suspect was arrested after Jonesboro police alleged he punched a victim, struck her in the head with a motorcycle helmet, took her purse and keys, and forced his way into her apartment on West Nettleton.

Christopher Lee Bills, 43, was arrested on charges of robbery, a Class B felony, along with misdemeanor counts of third-degree battery and theft.

Bills’ next court date is May 20. Bail was set at $100,000 cash only with a no-contact order. The bond was previously set by Judge Tommy Fowler and left in place Friday by Judge Barbara Halsey.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers with the Jonesboro Police Department were called March 23, 2026, to an apartment in the 2000 block of West Nettleton regarding an assault.

Officers made contact with the alleged victim, who said Bills, identified in the affidavit as her neighbor, stopped her outside her apartment and accused her of taking his property. The victim told police she did not know what he was talking about, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit states Bills then began punching the victim and hit her in the head with a motorcycle helmet, causing minor injury above her right eye. Police said Bills then stole the victim’s purse and keys and went into his apartment.

According to the affidavit, the victim then went into her apartment, but Bills returned and demanded to be let inside to look for property he claimed was there. The victim told him she was going to leave and said she had no other way out of the apartment, according to the affidavit.

A few moments later, police said Bills passed out while looking for the property he claimed was taken. The victim then exited the apartment and made contact with maintenance personnel, who called police.

Officers later found Bills inside the victim’s apartment and took him into custody, according to the affidavit.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
