UPDATE: Woman Shot Multiple Times in Poinsett County; Suspect Found Dead in Vehicle

TRUMANN, Ark. — A woman who was shot multiple times early March 7 on Tulot Road is now in stable condition, and investigators say the shooting stemmed from a domestic violence incident in which the suspect later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to the Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and officers with the Trumann Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Tulot Road at approximately 4:45 a.m. in reference to a reported shooting involving a female victim.

When law enforcement arrived, they located the alleged victim outside the residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.

During the initial response, officers located a male suspect deceased inside a vehicle on Tulot Road near the residence. Authorities initially said the suspect appeared to have sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

After further investigation, the sheriff’s office determined the incident was a domestic violence shooting.

Investigators said the suspect, Drew Joiner, 28, of Trumann, shot the victim, Ashley Williams, 30, of Trumann, at least six times before leaving the scene.

According to the sheriff’s office, Joiner drove away as officers were arriving and then pulled over on Tulot Road. Deputies and Trumann officers conducted a felony stop on the vehicle and issued commands to the suspect.

When Joiner did not respond, deputies used less-lethal bean bag rounds to break the vehicle’s glass. After still receiving no response, officers approached the vehicle and discovered Joiner was deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office said the victim’s condition has improved from critical to stable as the investigation continues.

The incident remains under active investigation by the Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Kevin Molder said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
