Bono Teen Arrested After Traffic Stop Leads to Discovery of Defaced Firearm

JONESBORO, Ark. — Jonesboro police arrested an 18-year-old Bono resident Friday after a traffic stop led to the discovery of a firearm with a removed serial number, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Officers conducted the stop at the intersection of East Johnson Avenue and North Fisher Street due to unconfirmed insurance. During the stop, a K-9 unit arrived on scene and conducted a free-air sniff of the vehicle, which resulted in a positive alert.

Based on the alert, officers searched the vehicle and located a firearm. Police said further examination revealed the serial number on the weapon had been intentionally removed. The suspect, identified as Aiden Nathaniel Shouse, reportedly told officers the firearm belonged to him.

Shouse was arrested by the Jonesboro Police Department and charged with possession of a defaced firearm, a Class D felony. He was transported to the Craighead County Detention Center.

Bail was set at $10,000 cash or surety.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  1. Let me get this straight … He was stopped for “unconfirmed” insurance, unconfirmed based on the word of the cop, but not charged with driving without insurance. Must have had insurance. Then the same cop caught a whiff of something suspicious and called in the drug sniffing dogs, which alerted based on the word of another cop. Yet, no drugs were found from a, *cough*, “probable cause” search. Now we’re expected accepted the word of these cops that he admitted to something illegal?

What do you think?
