JONESBORO, Ark. — A defendant with three prior DWI convictions was arrested Thursday and charged with his fourth DWI, along with several related offenses, according to a probable cause affidavit released on Friday.
Gregory Jiles, 39, was pulled over on Dec. 4 for a headlight violation, and officers suspected him of being intoxicated, the affidavit said. Police reported that Jiles showed all six clues on the horizontal gaze nystagmus test but refused to complete a breath test. A blood warrant was executed.
Because of his past DWI convictions — dated Jan. 23, 2021, Oct. 14, 2023, and March 16, 2024 — Jiles was charged with DWI (4th offense), a Class D felony.
Officers reported the suspect had a suspended license and no liability insurance. Officers stated that an open alcoholic container was found inside the vehicle, as well as a schedule IV narcotic pill located in the driver’s door.
Officers reported that Jiles is already on probation and has a history of failures to appear in court.
Craighead County District Judge Tommy Fowler set bail at $20,000 cash only. Jiles was ordered to wear both a GPS ankle monitor and a SCRAM alcohol-monitoring device upon release.
His next court date is scheduled for Jan. 23.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
