Jonesboro Suspect Accused of Breaking Into Ex’s Bedroom, Stealing TV Despite No-Contact Order

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro suspect is accused of violating a protective order and breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s bedroom, stealing her television and clothing, police said.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers responded to 1407 Rains Street on Sept. 12 after a reported burglary. The victim told officers that her ex-boyfriend, Orlando Tony Harper, 57, had forced his way into her locked bedroom and taken the items.

Officers found the bedroom door’s padlock broken and a hammer nearby. A witness told detectives she saw Harper enter the residence with a hammer, remove the lock, and leave with the television.

Police said the victim is protected by a no-contact order against Harper from a previous domestic incident.

Harper was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary, a Class B felony; violation of a no-contact order, a misdemeanor; and theft of property under $1,000.

On Monday in court, Harper pleaded with Judge Tommy Fowler to get a lower bond. However, judges in Craighead County District Court routinely inform defendants that a violation of a no-contact order starts a $10,000 cash-only bond.

Judge Fowler set Harper’s bail at $10,000 cash only, with a GPS monitor and a continued no-contact order. The judge noted the defendant has a history of violence, convictions this year, and is on probation. The notes on the affidavit indicate the judge had planned to issue a higher bond ($50,000) before his final decision.

Harper’s next court date is Nov. 25.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
