JONESBORO, Ark. — A large brawl erupted late Friday night/early Saturday in downtown Jonesboro, sending several to jail and two to the hospital, one of whom is in a coma, according to family.
Chief of Police Rick Elliott issued a statement saying that five people were arrested in the incident. Two people were transported to a local hospital with head injuries. He was not aware of the severity of their injuries. No officers were injured.
The two men who were hospitalized are brothers. One of the men, still in a hospital bed, contacted NEA Report on Sunday, asking that we not publish his name for fear of retaliation. He said all of his ribs on the left side are broken, his left wrist is broken, and he has a small hole in a lung. However, his brother is apparently fighting for his life. He said his brother had suffered brain bleeds and was in a medically induced coma. He had to have a hole drilled in his skull, with a hose in his brain to release the pressure. He’s not opened his eyes once. The family has been told he has a 50/50 chance of surviving.
A witness told NEA Report the fighting started on Main Street, down from the Brickhouse Grill. The subjects made their way to where the video showed the mayhem, which police said was at the corner of Cate and Church.
“It was a bunch of fights happening at once,” a witness said. “I’d say around 15-20 people fighting, and the cops got there within just a couple of minutes. Dude on the ground was knocked out for every bit of 10 minutes, then I’d say 3-5 more people were on the ground. Cops had every way blocked off within a few minutes, and a fire truck and ambulance got there within, I’d say, 10 minutes.”
We encourage if anyone can provide pertinent information or videos please contact the Criminal Investigation on Monday. – Chief of Police Rick Elliott
