JONESBORO, Ark. — A tragic accident Friday in Craighead County resulted in two deaths and five injuries, according to the fatal crash summary released Sunday by Arkansas State Police.
The crash happened at 6:33 p.m. on Dec. 5 on Highway 18 at the Lake City Bridge in Craighead County.
State police say a 2013 Ford traveling east crossed the center turn lane and struck a westbound 2023 Volkswagen head-on. A third vehicle, a 2014 Toyota also traveling west, then struck the Volkswagen from behind as a secondary impact.
The driver of the Ford, Brad King, 48, of Manila, died from his injuries. A male minor who was a passenger in the Volkswagen was also killed. His name and age were not disclosed in the report.
Five other people were injured in the Volkswagen, including the driver, Kennedy Riggs, 18, of Blytheville, and four minors whose names and ages were not disclosed. They were initially transported to NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital and St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Next of kin was notified, police reported.
The weather was clear, and the roads were dry at the time of the crash, the report states.
Trooper Brian C. Merrill of the Arkansas State Police investigated the collision.
The mother of one of the minor victims shared an update on Facebook Sunday night, stating that her son passed away at 6:55 PM.
