Police: Paragould Driver Crashed Into Home With Child in Car, Tested Positive for THC

PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould man is facing felony charges after police say he crashed into multiple yards and a home while driving impaired with a child in the back seat.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers responded to the intersection of U.S. Highway 412 and Court Street around 10:54 p.m. on June 20, 2025, following reports of a vehicle accident. When officers arrived, they determined the crash had started at the intersection but continued into the nearby Sundale Circle neighborhood.

Investigators said the vehicle traveled through four different yards, hitting trees, bushes, and lawn equipment before striking the side of a house and causing significant damage.

Police identified the driver as Christopher Hitchcock, 35, of Paragould. An 8-year-old child, identified as his son, was in the back seat at the time of the crash. The child suffered minor injuries, while Hitchcock was believed to have a broken forearm, according to officers at the scene.

Officers noted that Hitchcock showed signs of a high level of impairment during their interaction. While receiving treatment in the back of an ambulance, Hitchcock reportedly began falling asleep, prompting police to obtain a search warrant for a blood draw.

During a Mirandized interview on June 24 at the Paragould Police Department, Hitchcock reportedly made self-incriminating statements. Blood test results later indicated the presence of cannabinoid (THC), the active ingredient in marijuana.

Hitchcock faces two Class D felony charges: second-degree criminal mischief and first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor. He is also charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.

No information about bail was immediately available.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
