JONESBORO, Ark. — The charges against a man accused of murdering an elderly couple have been dismissed while the state looks to further investigate the case.
Jonathan Dean Boyd, also known as J.D. Boyd, of Paragould, faced charges including two counts of first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, and theft of a firearm in connection with the May 2023 deaths of Larry and Josey Boyd, his father and stepmother.
On June 19, 2025, the state filed and was granted a motion for order of nolle prosequi for good cause. In the motion, the state argued that at the time of his arrest, the sheriff’s office presented strong circumstantial evidence supporting the charges.
Newly available crime lab results have led the state to ask the court to nolle prosequi the charges, allowing the investigation to continue.
Circuit Judge Scott Ellington signed the order on June 19, 2025 (the date on the order mistakenly says 2024).
Boyd was arrested on May 21, 2023, by Greene County authorities. Larry and Josey Boyd were found dead in their home on Highway 351 North in Craighead County on May 8, 2023.
