Jonesboro Man Arrested in Domestic Disturbance on Oak Street

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro man was arrested following a reported domestic disturbance on Oak Street, where he allegedly assaulted his roommate during an argument over rent, according to police.

Officers were dispatched to the scene on March 22 at an unspecified time, the probable cause affidavit said. The alleged victim told police that Clarence Hayes became physical after she refused to pay additional rent. As she attempted to leave, Hayes allegedly pushed her to the ground and then began choking her, according to the report.

Officers observed red marks on the victim, and the victim’s 16-year-old child reportedly witnessed part of the altercation.

Hayes was arrested and transported to the Craighead County Detention Center. He faces a charge of Aggravated Assault on a Family or Household Member, a Class D Felony. On Monday, bail was set at $50,000 cash or surety by Judge David Boling, with the judge noting the defendant is on a suspended sentence for an aggravated robbery.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
