PARAGOULD, Ark. – A mother is facing felony charges for allegedly going too far and using a belt buckle to strike her young child in Paragould.
Paragould Police responded to a residence on March 3 for a welfare concern involving a child and found a 4-year-old with visible injuries to the face.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the child’s mother, Haily Russell, admitted to striking the child with a belt buckle. Officers reported additional injuries to the child’s head, sides, and back.
Haily Russell, 25, of Paragould, was arrested for Second-Degree Battery, a Class C felony.
5-26-304. Domestic battering in the second degree.
(Class C Felony)
(a) A person commits domestic battering in the second degree if:
(4) The person knowingly causes physical injury to a family or household member he or she knows to be
sixty (60) years of age or older or twelve (12) years of age or younger.
(b)
(1) Domestic battering in the second degree is a Class C felony.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
