JONESBORO, Ark. — A man is accused of selling more than 10 grams of methamphetamine to a confidential source on two occasions during a Craighead County drug investigation.
Thomas E. Ivy faces two counts of delivery of methamphetamine or cocaine, more than 10 grams but less than 200 grams. Each count is a Class Y felony punishable by 10 to 40 years or life in prison.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the investigation began in April and concluded in May after a confidential source told the 2nd Judicial District Drug Task Force that they could purchase methamphetamine from Ivy.
Agents conducted two controlled purchases using the source, the affidavit states.
Before each purchase, investigators searched the source and their vehicle and reportedly found no illegal contraband. Agents then provided the source with Drug Task Force money and a covert recording device.
The source met Ivy at a predetermined location and exchanged the money for suspected methamphetamine, investigators alleged.
After each transaction, agents met with the source at a secured location and took possession of the substance. Investigators said it was weighed and field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
The source identified Ivy after both transactions, according to the affidavit. Agents reported monitoring the purchases through physical and electronic surveillance.
Investigators alleged that each purchase involved more than 10 grams but less than 200 grams of methamphetamine.
A supplemental affidavit states Ivy was taken into custody Aug. 25 on unrelated charges.
Judge Thomas Fowler found probable cause and set Ivy’s bond at $250,000 cash or surety. Ivy was ordered to wear a GPS ankle monitor as a condition of his release. The court appointed the public defender’s office to represent him.
His next court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Sept. 30 at the Craighead County Courthouse.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
