PARAGOULD, Ark. — One person was killed in a house fire Saturday in rural Greene County.
Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder released the information. Around 7:29 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, a structure fire was reported in the 1700 block of County Road 333 near the Greene / Craighead County line. Firefighters from Western Greene County and Philadelphia Fire Departments responded.
While extinguishing the fire, deputies received information suggesting someone may have been inside the residence when the fire started. After firefighters brought the blaze under control and the scene cooled enough for further investigation, a body was discovered inside the home. Investigators from the sheriff’s department and a deputy coroner from the Greene County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene.
The body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and identification. Given the fatality, Snyder said he requested the Paragould Fire Department’s Fire Marshal to assist with the investigation.
After deputies secured the area overnight, the fire marshal and investigators returned to the scene Sunday morning to continue their work.
Additional information will be released as it becomes available, the sheriff said.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of this individual during this difficult time.
– Sheriff Brad Snyder
