JONESBORO, Ark. — On Thursday, Nov. 7, the city provided an update on the status of the dilapidated Citizen’s Bank building to the media and city council members.
Communications Director Donna Malone said engineers continue working with Nabholz Construction to gather price quotes for removing the building. Two demolition experts, North Delta Engineering and Pickering Engineering, are looking at it, Malone said.
The city said estimates will vary depending on the demolition approach. The two most important factors the city is weighing are cost and the length of the project.
It was noted that city officials have discussed possible alternative solutions. Currently, plans continue to condemnation of the structure.
Malone said legal, engineering experts and Nabholz Construction are working as quickly as possible with a focus on ensuring that the city follows the legal process and is protected from future liabilities.
While re-opening Main Street is the top priority, we have a responsibility to ensure that we act in the best interest of public funds.

The plan is to bring a condemnation resolution to the Public Safety Committee this month, followed by a 20-day notice before it can be considered by the full council.
