Man Arrested for Alleged Attack on 76-Year-Old Mother in Paragould

PARAGOULD, Ark. — A man faces charges that include felony battery for an alleged attack on his elderly mother in Paragould.

On Nov. 5, 2024, Paragould officers responded to E. Garland about an assault call, according to the probable cause affidavit. Officers spoke to the alleged victim, who said that her son had attacked her and taken her phone, preventing her from calling the police. The alleged victim stated she had to walk to the neighbor’s house to call 911.

Officers noted the woman had multiple injuries, the affidavit said. Police also reported she was 76-years-old. Arkansas code § 5-26-304 states that a person knowingly causing injury to a family or household member he or she knows to be age 60 or older is considered second-degree battery.

Authorities arrested Michael Taylor, 39, of Paragould, for second-degree domestic battery, a Class C felony, and first-degree interference with emergency communication, a Class A misdemeanor.

On Nov. 5, Judge Dan Stidham set bond at $25,000 cash-only and ordered no contact with the victim.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
