Repeat DWI Offender Gets Stiff Cash-Only Bail

JONESBORO, Ark. — The judge called the defendant a “danger to the public” over his latest driving while intoxicated charge before setting a $20,000 cash-only bail requirement Friday in Jonesboro.

Cameron Ray Allison, 33, of Tyronza, faces charges including DWI VI, a felony; speeding and driving on a suspended license from DWI, both misdemeanors.

The probable cause affidavit says at about 7 a.m. on October 16, a state trooper was on I-555 near the 37-mile marker facing south in Craighead County when a white pickup was observed speeding. The vehicle was clocked going 98 in a 75 mph zone. A traffic stop was conducted.

When the trooper spoke to Allison, the driver, he reported smelling intoxicants. Allison was asked to step out of the vehicle. The affidavit states Allison said he drank a pint of vodka the previous night.

A Standardized Field Sobriety Test was conducted. Allison showed six clues on horizontal gaze nystagmus, three on the walk and turn test, and two on the one-leg stand test. Allison also provided a breath sample. The final result was 0.09. Allison was arrested and taken to Craighead County Detention Center.

Allison has three DWI convictions, the affidavit states, from 2015, 2019, and 2024. He currently has two DWIs pending, according to the affidavit.

Judge Tommy Fowler also noted Allison has a failure to appear charge from August. The judge set bail at $20,000 cash-only, meaning the full amount must be posted before his release. An ankle monitor and an alcohol monitor were also ordered for the defendant.

Allison asked the judge about rehab as an option and Fowler noted it could be a possibility, but most probably after he served potential jail time.

The judge also ordered Allison to pay fines after he pleaded guilty to a failure to pay charge stemming from a public intoxication case.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
