Man Faces Charges for Alleged Stabbing Sunday in Jonesboro

JONESBORO, Ark. — Police investigated a reported stabbing incident on Sunday in Jonesboro.

On October 13, officers with the Jonesboro Police Department were dispatched to an address on Puryear in response to a reported stabbing incident, according to the probable cause affidavit. Officers arrived and found Calvin Smith standing in the roadway, with the alleged victim in the yard bleeding from his arm.

Officers spoke with both subjects, each of whom lives at the residence. The two had gotten into an argument after Smith reportedly grabbed a female victim by the arms, leaving bruises, and was trying to throw her out of the house. The affidavit alleges that Smith obtained a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim in four different locations, causing minor injuries.

After stabbing the fourth time, police say the knife broke and Smith then picked up bricks. He began throwing those at the female victim who called 911. The affidavit alleges that Smith told the male victim he would use the brick to bash his head in and kill him before the police could arrive.

Calvin Smith, 58, of Jonesboro, was arrested for second-degree domestic battering, a Class C felony; first-degree terroristic threatening, a Class D felony; and third-degree battery, a Class A misdemeanor.

On Monday, Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause to charge Smith and set his bail at $50,000 cash or surety, with a no-contact order and ankle monitor also in place.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
