JONESBORO, Ark. — A suspect is in custody after authorities investigated a shots fired incident over the weekend in Jonesboro.
The incident report states that it happened between 11:00 p.m. and 11:28 p.m. at the 1500 block of French Street in Jonesboro. Officer Logan Mason with the Jonesboro Police Department was in the area of Word Street and Labaurne Street when he heard multiple gunshots coming from west of his location. Officers arrived to find two cars had been shot and multiple shots had been fired into a residence.
The probable cause affidavit released on Monday, Sept. 9, revealed more about the incident. Authorities found several different calibers of shell casings in the street, indicating that there were multiple shooters. The alleged victim stated she was sitting on the couch when shots rang out. She got her children down to protect them and then said she ran outside to see Jalen McCullough’s car, a gold 2003 Honda Accord Crosstour, speeding away. She added that the gold car was missing a front bumper, and she could see multiple people in the car.
Meanwhile, other officers were at a call at Cedar Manor when the shots fired call came through. While on their call, those officers witnessed McCullough’s car pull into the complex, with several people exiting. Officers spoke with McCullough and two juveniles in the parking lot about the shooting that had just taken place. While talking with the suspect, police noted they could see shell casings in the car.
A K9 officer had his partner sniff the vehicle, and the dog gave a positive alert. Officers searched the vehicle and found several caliber shell casings inside the car that matched the shell casings found on French Street. Another officer found a Glock pistol that was hidden in some bushes where the occupants of the car had been let out. The incident report said a firearm was wrapped in a white Annie Camp school shirt.
Jalen Jakel McCullough, 20, of Jonesboro, was arrested and transported to the police department to be interviewed, along with the two juveniles, both 17 years old. Afterward, McCullough was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center and booked on a Class B felony charge of terroristic act. The police report did not indicate the juveniles were arrested.
On Monday, Judge David Boling found probable cause to hold McCullough on the charge. Per the recommendation of the deputy prosecuting attorney, the judge set bail at $75,000 cash or surety.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
