VIDEO ADDED: Inmate Involved in Excessive Force Controversy Assaulted in Jail

JONESBORO, Ark. — The man who was struck numerous times while in handcuffs by a Jonesboro officer who was later fired was the victim of an assault in his cell block by several inmates, according to probable cause affidavits released on Friday. Three men already in jail are now facing new felony charges.

On Sept. 3, inmate Billy Coram was assaulted by several inmates in the M3 cell block of the Craighead County Detention Center. The affidavit says the inmates who took part in the assault were Jerry Brown, Kendrick Anderson, and William Faulkner.

According to the affidavit, it began with Brown being the first to strike Coram, hitting him from behind in the right side of the face. When Coram fell to the ground, Faulkner ran up, moved Brown out of the way, and began punching Coram repeatedly. Anderson ran up the stairs and joined Faulkner in striking Coram while he was down. Anderson can be seen on jail video kicking and stomping on Coram.

In the middle of the chaos, Brown went to Coram’s cell where his cellmate, Sadon Whitfield, gave Brown all of Coram’s commissary.

Finally, the attack stopped and Coram remained on the floor. Not long after that, other inmates checked on him and got the jailer’s attention. Jail staff escorted Coram out of the cellblock with the assistance of another inmate.

Coram was transported to St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center to be checked out.

Jerry Brown, Kendrick Anderson, and William Faulkner are being charged with aggravated assault, a Class D felony, and misdemeanor theft. A $50,000 cash bond was set for each. Their next scheduled court appearance is at 8:30 a.m. on October 28.

Brown and Anderson showed no interest in hearing their pending charges in court on Friday. Brown asked just to be sent to the Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC) while Anderson said he wanted to go back to the dorm and didn’t care. However, Judge Tommy Fowler showed a great deal of patience with both as they continued their disrespect and use of expletives. Afterward, Fowler noted that the cash bond would still be in place after they got out of ADC.

He was seen by medical staff and at the hospital, and no major injuries were sustained, according to Sheriff Marty Boyd.

Allegations from the probable cause affidavits of the suspects.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  1. A guy who got beat up by a JPD cop now just happens to get beat up by inmates? I don’t see that making the city’s situation any better. It would seem to add the county as a defendant. Coincidence? Color me suspicious.

  2. No it’s not coincidence… the police are lying to these inmates to have their back sad thing is same lies being told to judges…. Best Fowler stands firm bolin already crooked
