Sid Eudy, Wrestling World Champion from West Memphis, Has Passed Away

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — A professional wrestling legend from Northeast Arkansas has passed away, according to a social media post by his son.

Sid Eudy, 63, passed away, a post from his son, Gunnar, said on Monday, August 26. He had battled cancer for several years according to the post.

“He was a man of strength, kindness, and love, and his presence will be greatly missed,” Gunnar Eudy wrote on Facebook. “We appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we grieve this loss.”

Known as Sid Vicious, Sid Justice, and ‘Psycho’ Sid, Eudy rose to stardom in the professional wrestling world with his towering presence, billed as 6’9″ and well over 300 pounds. In 1992, Eudy main-event Wrestlemania 8 against Hulk Hogan, in what was hinted at being Hogan’s final career match, although he later returned.

Eudy later won the world championship in Madison Square Garden at the 1996 Survivor Series, defeating Shawn Michaels. In 1997, Eudy would again win a world championship, this time from Bret “The Hitman” Hart, and defended the title at Wrestlemania 13 against the Undertaker, where he was defeated.

In total, Eudy was a six-time world champion, having also won world titles from WCW and the USWA.

Throughout his career, he was always announced as being, “from West Memphis, Arkansas.”

Details for the memorial service have not yet been released.
