Woman Arrested After Home Security Video Captures Threat in Paragould

PARAGOULD, Ark. – A woman’s alleged threats to kill someone ended up getting her arrested for felony terroristic threatening recently in Paragould.

On July 25, 2024, the Paragould Police Department responded to a report of threats being made. They spoke with the victim, the probable cause affidavit said, who reported that the suspect had threatened murder.

While many cases of threats come down to hearsay, this case was different. There was home surveillance video that recorded the threat being made. The video was provided to police, who noted they could hear a female threaten to kill the victim. Officers recognized the voice as that of Melissa Smith.

The PC affidavit adds that Smith allegedly admitted to police to making the threat out of anger.

Melissa Carol Smith, 36, of Paragould, was arrested for felony first-degree terroristic threatening. Judge Dan Stidham set her bond at $10,000 cash only and ordered her not to possess any weapons. A no contact order was also put into place between her and the victim.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
