JONESBORO, Ark. – A local man won a hefty sum playing the lottery recently in Monette.
An anonymous resident of Jonesboro claimed a $600,000 prize from the July 10 Natural State Jackpot drawing, officials announced this week. The winner, who opted to remain unnamed, collected the prize at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Claim Center on July 15.
The winning ticket, featuring numbers 15, 16, 24, 32, and 34, was purchased at Jordan’s Kwik Stop #64 on 19888 Highway 18 E. in Monette. The lucky winner, working in Monette at the time of purchase, is a frequent player of the Natural State Jackpot (NSJ), having bought three tickets for the drawing, each with ten plays.
Upon discovering news of the winning ticket via a local news app just before bedtime, the Jonesboro man checked his tickets and found that his third ticket secured the $600,000 jackpot — the largest in NSJ history.
“I was just shocked,” the winner told lottery officials.
After waking his initially skeptical wife with the news, she confirmed the win by checking the lottery website, prompting plans to pay off their mortgage, invest in stocks, and save for their child’s future.
In another recent win, Springdale resident Michelle H. claimed a $75,000 prize from the Extra! Extra! Crossword instant game after purchasing a $3 ticket at Kum & Go #414 on 1220 E. Robinson in Springdale. Michelle, a longtime player, was surprised to discover her ticket was a winner, using her winnings for home repairs.
