Man Convicted of Rape, Sentenced of 20 Years

PARAGOULD, Ark. – A massage therapist who was accused of rape has been convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Second Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Sonia F. Hagood announced a Greene County jury convicted Phillip Brinkley, 75, of 1 count of rape. On Wednesday, May 8, 2024, Circuit Judge Randy Philhours followed the recommendation of the jury and imposed a 20-year imprisonment term. Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys Wesley Watts and Adam Butler prosecuted the case.

“This verdict should send a message, once again, that we will never stop fighting to protect rape victims in Greene County and the entire Second Judicial District.” said Hagood.

Originating from Brinkley’s arrest on September 12, 2022 by the Paragould Police Department, this case exemplifies the necessity of meticulous investigations. “The bravery displayed by the victims in disclosing the abuse they endured speaks volumes, and this verdict is a direct result of their courage. The follow up investigation by the Paragould Police Department was exemplary and reflects their hard work and dedication to the citizens of Paragould.” said Deputy Prosecutor Wesley Watts.

On September 9, 2022. an adult female victim reported to the Paragould Police Department that she had been raped via digital penetration while getting a massage from Brinkley at a local massage parlor. Brinkley was interviewed at the police substation and during a mirandized interview, gave self-incriminating statements.

After Brinkley’s arrest, several other women came forward to detail similar acts that Brinkley committed against them under similar circumstances within the last decade.

Cases of this nature are emotionally taxing, and their service is deeply appreciated.”
