Threats Lead to Man’s Arrest on Various Charges

JONESBORO, Ark. – A man faces numerous charges, including felonies, after an incident that began with alleged threats to kill his girlfriend.

Police responded around 9 PM on March 18 to Anchor Packaging, 4708 Krueger Drive, to a report of an armed person. Officers arrived and made contact with Derek Patterson, 40, of Jonesboro.

The report states that police were administering field sobriety tests including a portable breathalyzer to Patterson, but he first stuck his tongue over the tube and then blew saliva in the tube. Feeling that he was deliberately failing the test, officers arrested Patterson.

The report says the suspect threatened to kill his girlfriend and another male at the girlfriend’s workplace. Police transported Patterson to jail but Patrolman Benjamin Bass believed a weapon may have been discarded before officers made contact. He had observed a photo on the suspect’s phone that apparently showed the suspect in possession of the gun.

Sure enough, after searching the scene, police found a revolver matching the photographed gun. The suspect’s phone was seized as evidence so a search warrant could be obtained to locate and collect the photograph.

Patterson faces charges including DWI, possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, third degree assault, felony tampering, and felony first degree terroristic threatening.
