JONESBORO, Ark. – As the holiday season heightens in Jonesboro, incidents of package thefts have surged, reflecting a broader trend in many areas during this time of year.
According to police records, a recent incident occurred between 10:45 AM and 12 Noon on Dec. 19 in the 1000-block of N. Patrick Street. A 32-year-old woman reported to authorities that a package was taken from outside her residence shortly after delivery. The stolen item consisted of a set of Apple Airpods. However, despite the value, theft of any postal package is a felony charge.
Similarly, another incident took place between 6:30 PM on Dec. 19 and 10:06 AM on Dec. 20 in the 300-block of West Center Street. An unidentified individual absconded with a package from a victim’s mailbox, containing a white hat adorned with cookies valued at $5.
In yet another comparable event on Dec. 20 between 3:07 PM and 3:17 PM at the 4800-block of Gregory Drive, a 25-year-old man reported the theft of two custom blankets. The blankets, featuring personalized photographs—one of himself and another with images of his mother and children—were taken directly from the packages.
Thieves also recently targeted Jonesboro’s GameStop in an effort to steal packages full of expensive electronics. They were apprehended.
