PARAGOULD, Ark. – A man facing a felony charge for theft of property is accused of attempting to conceal some of the stolen items under a detective’s desk while being questioned.
The Paragould Police Department took the report on Dec. 8, the probable cause affidavit states. Officers were dispatched to the vicinity of Thomas Street and 10th Street after a report of a male stealing a package from a porch. The caller described the suspect as wearing a blue jacket and blue jeans, having brownish-gray hair, and being in his 50s. The witness observed the suspect taking a package from an address on Redwood and disposing of it in a nearby dumpster on 10th Street.
Officers eventually located an individual matching the given description near the intersection of 6th Street and Bertig Street. He was found in possession of a box of Legos and a miniature home building kit.
During this time, law enforcement received another call reporting a theft at a residence on Redwood Drive. The caller’s doorbell camera had captured footage of someone stealing a box from the residence. Police confirmed that the items found in the possession of the suspect belonged to the victim. The shipping box was recovered from a nearby dumpster.
Following his apprehension, the defendant was taken to the Paragould Police Department Substation for questioning. In a mirandized interview, the individual made incriminating statements. At one point during the interview, the detective conducting the interrogation stepped out of the room, and the affidavit alleges that the defendant attempted to conceal another stolen item behind the detective’s desk.
