PARAGOULD, Ark. – A Paragould man was arrested this week on a felony battery charge involving a pregnant victim.
The Paragould Police Department received the report on November 29 after a pregnant woman arrived at a police substation with blood on her face. She informed officers that her boyfriend, identified as Javian Roy, had struck her in the face and kicked her. Law enforcement noted injuries to her face and lip. The woman, who disclosed she is 31 weeks pregnant with Roy’s child, was transported to a hospital for medical attention.
Subsequently, officers contacted Roy and arrested him for third-degree domestic battery. Following transportation to the police substation for questioning, authorities reported that Roy made incriminating statements.
Following a probable cause hearing by a judge, Roy’s bond was set at $10,000, cash-only.
Domestic battering in the third degree is a Class A misdemeanor but it rises to the level of a Class D felony if committed against a woman the person knew or reasonably should have known was pregnant.
