JONESBORO, Ark. – A 42-year-old man, John Ed Griffin, was found seriously injured after being thrown off a second-floor balcony at the Red Wolf Inn in Jonesboro on Friday night, August 18.
Police arrived at the hotel, located at 2901 Phillips Drive, between 9 and 10 PM, discovering Griffin unconscious with significant injuries, including a laceration to the top of his head and unknown internal injuries from the fall.
In a subsequent interview with the victim on Monday, Griffin described the events that led to his fall. He recalled walking to a friend’s room two doors down when a black male approached him and asked for the time. Griffin’s response apparently angered the individual, who walked off, only to attack Griffin from behind moments later. A brief struggle ensued, culminating in the suspect pushing Griffin off the balcony. Griffin’s next memory was waking up after the fall.
The suspect was described as a black male wearing a black hoodie with a silver design.
Initially, the case was considered a potential felony. However, after further examination, the injuries were found not to be as severe as initially believed. As a result, detectives have amended the charge to misdemeanor battery.
The investigation into this incident has since been closed.
