Jonesboro Man Arrested in Child Exploitation Case Following SWAT Operation

JONESBORO — An investigation into child exploitation led to the arrest of a Jonesboro man early Tuesday morning, thanks to the combined efforts of the Jonesboro Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Division and the JPD SWAT team.

The investigation was initiated in July after JPD received a cyber tip about several images related to child exploitation uploaded to a Dropbox account, a release posted to social media said. According to Dropbox, the account was registered to Jonathan Carmichael. Acting on this information, detectives secured a search warrant for the account, subsequently uncovering 60-70 images and videos showing sexually exploited juvenile males.

On August 15, the JPD ICAC, backed by the SWAT team, executed a search warrant at Carmichael’s residence. He was taken into custody and charged with Possession or Use of Child Sexual Abuse Material. Carmichael made a court appearance later in the day, where a $35,000 bond was set for his release.
