JONESBORO, Ark. — An Econo Lodge employee faces a felony charge after police said he used a guest’s debit card number to order food from Papa Johns and Uber Eats.
Roshan Acharya is charged with theft of property involving a credit or debit card, a Class D felony. He also faces misdemeanor charges of fraudulent use of a credit card and theft of $1,000 or less.
Jonesboro police took a report Aug. 15 from a woman who discovered unauthorized charges of $33.77 from Papa Johns, $49.03 from Uber Eats and $7.99 from Amazon Prime, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The woman said the charges appeared after she provided her card to an employee while renting a room at Econo Lodge.
During the investigation, police said they found evidence connecting the phone number used for the purchases to Acharya, an employee at the hotel.
Acharya came to the Jonesboro Police Department for an interview Aug. 19. After being advised of his rights, police said Acharya admitted obtaining the woman’s card number and using it to make the Papa Johns and Uber Eats purchases. The affidavit does not say he admitted making the Amazon Prime charge.
Acharya’s bond was set at $7,500 cash or surety by Judge David Boling. His next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 30 in Craighead County Circuit Court.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
