Searcy Couple Arrested in Connection with Overdose Deaths

SEARCY, Ark. — A couple from Searcy has been arrested following an investigation into two overdose deaths linked to fentanyl.

On Sunday, July 9, 2023, the Central Arkansas Drug Task Force and Searcy Police Detectives launched an investigation into the death of a 26-year-old resident of Searcy due to a suspected overdose. During the course of the investigation, Leroy and Tara Sanders were identified as the individuals who allegedly sold fentanyl to the victim, resulting in her fatal overdose, a press release from the Searcy Police Department said.

Additionally, authorities discovered that Leroy and Tara Sanders were also suspects in another fentanyl-related death that occurred on February 12, 2023, involving a male victim in Searcy.

On July 10, 2023, Leroy Sanders 3rd was taken into custody on charges of Aggravated Death by Delivery, an unclassified felony, and Delivery of Fentanyl, a Y-Felony. Tara Sanders was also arrested on charges of Aggravated Death by Delivery, Delivery of Fentanyl, and Furnishing Prohibited Articles into a correctional facility, a class B Felony.

It is worth noting that at the time of their recent arrest, Leroy and Tara Sanders were already out on bond for previous charges of Trafficking Fentanyl.

The arrest of the Sanders couple underscores the serious consequences associated with the distribution of dangerous substances such as fentanyl.
