Semi-truck, trailer fall onto side at landfill

Thursday morning was eventful at Legacy Landfill in Craighead County.

A semi-truck with trailer attached was driving up a dirt path toward the trash heap. For some reason, the driver of the large truck and trailer attempted to drive in reverse back down the path, an employee told our reporter.

Photos show the trailer left the dirt road and toppled over onto its side, taking the truck over with it.

Fortunately, the driver was not injured, we are told.

Multiple tow trucks were dispatched to try to flip the truck back over. But even the pros were scratching their heads at this one. Flipping the trailer by itself would be simple. Flipping it without damaging it while it is still full? That was the challenge.

So, a landfill employee went to work with a backhoe to try to unload the truck from the top.

After some time and careful work, the truck and trailer was flipped back upright.
