Sheriff strengthens security at Independence County Fair after threat

As the Independence County Fair began this week, authorities were forced to heighten security over a reported threat.

Below is the full press release from the sheriff’s department:

On May 29, 2022, Independence County Sheriffs’ Department deputies were contacted by a female subject who was advised of a possible threat that would occur on Monday, May 30, 2022 at the Independence County Fair. The female complainant did not receive this threat directly and was unable to provide a full name or any information that would permit the Sheriffs’ deputies to locate a person of interest. Sheriff Shawn Stephens has strengthened security on the fairgrounds as the county fair kicked off on Monday.
