JONESBORO, Ark. — A former property manager is accused of stealing more than $6,000 in rent money and altering deposit records to conceal missing funds, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Lora Samples faces a felony theft allegation after Bearden Rentals reported the missing money Sept. 10.
A company representative told police Samples had altered deposit slips and check numbers to conceal missing funds and had taken money orders from multiple deposits she made on the company’s behalf, the affidavit alleges.
The alleged thefts occurred over several months. The company’s owner maintained a file documenting the deposits in question, according to the affidavit.
Bearden Rentals told police Samples took responsibility for the missing funds when she was fired and offered to repay the money, the affidavit states.
A handwritten notation in the court paperwork states that Samples turned herself in at the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office.
First appearance paperwork lists theft of property valued at more than $5,000 but less than $25,000 as a Class C felony.
District Judge David Boling found probable cause Oct. 28. Bond was set at $5,000 cash or surety. Samples’ next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 16, according to the court documents.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
