Snider Foundation Adds Gift for Graduate Nursing Scholarships at A-State

JONESBORO – The Dorothy Snider Foundation has presented a second $25,000 gift to Arkansas State University to continue providing scholarships for students pursing a Master of Science in Nursing degree, family nurse practitioner option, in the College of Nursing and Health Professions.

The foundation, a private charitable organization, previously made a donation of $25,000 to A-State’s CNHP scholarship fund in August 2019.

The foundation awards over $250,000 in scholarships annually to students in Arkansas and Tennessee, supporting educational endeavors in the areas of medicine, law, theology, business or any of the natural sciences or scientific fields.

“The Dorothy Snider Foundation has generously supported our family nurse practitioner students,” said Dr. Susan Hanrahan, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Professions. “These stipends really help our students defray college debt and keep them on a path for graduation. We are grateful for their generosity and support of health professions education.”

“We are very grateful for the scholarship gift provided by the foundation for our family nurse practitioner students,” added Dr. Mark Foster, chair, graduate programs. “These scholarships are able to impact multiple students within our region and their care as future healthcare providers will be far-reaching in generations to come.”

“Arkansas State’s family nurse practitioner program matches one of our core focus areas: healthcare. Add to that the clear impact it has on the health of Arkansans and that makes us proud to support this program and A-State once again,” stated Clint Cummins, vice chairman of the distribution committee for the Dorothy Snider Foundation.

Among the program’s strengths are two onsite clinical visits per semester, most affordable tuition in the region, and the most required clinical contact hours for a MSN degree in the region. More than half the program content includes direct interaction with faculty and students, including family nurse practitioner specialty and health assessment courses.
