Police investigate burglaries, windows being shot out, and more

JONESBORO, Ark. – Authorities stayed busy Monday night into Tuesday morning with several calls of crimes that affected a variety of individuals.

One such incident happened between 8 PM Monday and 7 AM Tuesday at the 1100-block of Warner Avenue. A suspect kicked in the door of a home under construction and stole wires, the report said. It estimated $2,500 worth of wiring was taken.

A commercial burglary was reported at the Dollar General on Gee Street at about 2:30 AM Tuesday. The suspect entered the closed business, although the report doesn’t specify how. The report says three bags of Lays potato chips were stolen. For the theft, it would be a misdemeanor charge. However, commercial burglary is a felony.

Authorities are also looking into windows being shot out of a business, PCs On Call, 800 East Matthews Avenue. It happened sometime between Saturday at 8 PM and Monday morning at 6 AM, the incident report said. One window was shot out this time, but another window had been shot out not long ago and was documented as well. The estimated cost has been $850 so far.

A firearm was accidentally discharged late Sunday night at the 400-block of Garden manor apartments. The bullet went through two apartments, apparently penetrating the floor of the top dwelling, going through the ceiling and into the tile of the bottom dwelling. After investigating, authorities learned a male had been showing off a rifle upstairs and accidentally fired it. No one was injured. The male suspect, who wasn’t named in the report, could be charged with discharging firearms within the city limits and criminal mischief.
